What Do I Need to Apply for Medicaid?

May 25, 2017Medicaid

What do I need to apply for Medicaid? This is a very important question, as you want to be prepared to submit your Medicaid application and you want to ensure your application is comprehensive so you can maximize your chances of approval. Medicaid can be one of the only options for getting medical services if you have low income, and Medicaid can be your only option for getting nursing home care covered if you need routine care, rather than specialized medical help. You don’t want to have trouble getting important benefits when you need them. what do i need to apply for medicaid

The Law Office of Michael Robinson, P.C. can provide assistance with the Medicaid qualification process. We know New York laws on Medicaid eligibility and we understand the steps that must be taken when applying for Medicaid coverage.

Our legal team can help you to make an advanced plan to protect your assets and ensure you can get covered by Medicaid if and when you have a need for the care that Medicaid covers. When it comes time to apply, we are here to help with the formal application submission process. Give us a call today to find out more.

The New York Department of Health explains the Medicaid application process and the requirements for getting covered by Medicaid. The application process is going to vary depending upon whether you fall into the MAGI Eligibility Group, or the Non-MAGI eligibility group.

The MAGI eligibility group includes:

  • Children under 19.
  • Childless adults aged 19 to 65 who aren’t pregnant, who aren’t on Medicare, and who could be certified as disabled.
  • Kids under the age of 19.
  • Some parents and caretaker relatives, and some children in foster care

The non-MAGI eligibility group, on the other hand, includes seniors over the age of 65, residents of certain adult homes, people taking advantage of the AIDS health insurance program, and others who don’t qualify for MAGI eligibility.

When applying for Medicaid as part of either the MAGI or non-MAGI eligibility group, you will have to submit an application, although the applications are different. You will need to provide financial statements showing resources and proof of income. You’ll also need to offer details on people living in your household, as well as providing your Social Security number and, if necessary, documentation on your immigration status.

There may also be other additional documents you must present when you apply for Medicaid coverage. An experienced attorney can work through the application with you and help you to make sure you are including everything that you need when applying.

How Can You Make Sure You Get Medicaid Coverage?

The key to getting Medicaid coverage when you apply is to make certain that you actually meet the criteria. This means having a limited income and having few resources to your name. If you have too much wealth in the form of money, assets, or property, you are not going to be able to get Medicaid coverage. You will have to spend your money on care, and even potentially sell some assets and property and use the proceeds from the sale to pay for your nursing home or other types of medical care. Once you’ve spent enough to come below the resource limits, then you can get covered.

The Law Office of Michael Robinson, P.C. provides help with making a Medicaid plan that allows you to avoid this spend-down process so you can keep your assets safe. You can work with an experienced attorney who offers Medicaid planning assistance to make certain that you have protected your assets and to make sure you can qualify for benefits when you need them. Our legal team will evaluate your situation, help you to determine if you need Medicaid planning, and will guide you in using the right processes and legal tools to make your Medicaid plan.
