Watkins Glen, New York

Taking up just over two square miles, the Village of Watkins Glen, New York is the county seat of Schuyler County and lies within the towns of Dix and Reading. As of 2017, the village was home to 1,919 residents.

Although the Village may be relatively small, it has some attractions that bring people from all over the world. For example, the village is home to the well-known race track Watkins Glen International, which hosts the NASCAR Cup Series, IndyCar and is a former host of the United Grand Prix of Formula One.

European settlors began exploring he area that would eventually become Watkins Glen in the early 1800s. At the time, the area was the northern terminus of the Chemung Canal which was started in 1830 and completed in 1833. Once complete, the canal connected Seneca Lake to the Chemung River. Catharine Creek, flowing into the lake through the village, was used to help create the canal. The village was incorporated in 1842 and given the name “Salubria.” That name would later change to Jefferson before becoming Watkins, named after Dr. Samuel Watkins, the founder. Finally, in  1926 the current name of Watkins Glen was adopted.

Visitors to Watkins Glen will not want to miss the opportunity to visit a few of the numerous homes and buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, such as the A. F. Chapman House, First Baptist Church of Watkins Glen, and the Schuyler County Courthouse Complex as well as the St. James Episcopal Church, the Watkins Glen Commercial Historic

Creating a comprehensive estate plan is among the most important endeavors you will undertake during the course of your lifetime.  At the Law Office of Michael Robinson, P.C. we understand the importance of your estate plan to you and to your family which is why our goal is always to create lasting relationships with each of our Watkins Glen, New York clients. That relationship helps ensure that we can meet your estate planning needs, goals, and wishes both now and in the future.

A successful estate plan requires a solid foundation; however, it also requires nurturing. Consequently, your estate plan is not something you create and forget about once it is in place. Instead, your estate plan is something that will need to be reviewed and updated throughout the course of your life as your estate and your family grows. Initially, your focus may be on nothing more than ensuring you do not leave behind an intestate estate should something happen to you.  As such, a Last Will and Testament may be all you need in the beginning. Deciding to marry and/or become a parent, however, will change that as you now have a family to protect and provide for in your plan. At that point, you may decide to create a trust to protect your minor child’s inheritance, for example, as well as incorporate incapacity planning into your overall plan.  As you move into middle age, you should begin merging your retirement plans with your estate plan to ensure that the two plans work in harmony with each other. Long before you reach retirement age, however, you should also consider adding Medicaid planning to your estate plan to ensure that you can afford the high cost of long-term care. Funeral planning along with advance directives should also be included in your overall estate plan if you want your wishes to be honored with regard to end of life medical treatment.

At Law Office of Michael Robinson, P.C. our hope is that we can be there with you throughout the various phases of your life to help ensure that your estate plan protects you, your assets, and your loved ones at all phases of your life.
