Life in Pittsford

Pittsford is located in Monroe County and is considered to be both a suburb of Rochester and part of the greater Rochester metropolitan area. Close to 30,000 people live in the Pittsford area, and the Town of Pittsford dates back all the way to 1796, although it was not incorporated until 1827. Pittsford spans 23.4 miles, and the Erie Canal passes through Pittsford.

The access to the Erie Canal helped to shape Pittsford’s economy throughout the 19th century, and today there are still many businesses located along the Erie Canal. However, what was once old industrial buildings and barns today include cafes, shops, restaurants, and other tourist destinations. There are boat tours along the canal that draw in residents and visitors, and there are also concerts held along the canal.

In addition to activities along the Erie Canal, there is plenty more to do in Pittsford as well. For example, there are two local malls in the area, including Eastview Mall and The Marketplace Mall, both of which are important local commercial areas. Pittsford is also the home of the largest Wegman’s grocery store within the state of New York.

For those who like to be outdoors or do sporting activities, Pittsford is home to four different country clubs, so professional golf events are regularly held in there. The University Athletic Association is also based in Pittsford as well.

Senior Services in Pittsford

In Pittsford, 9.5 percent of households are made up of someone who is 65 or older and who lives alone. Monroe County has a number of programs and services for seniors which people in Pittsford can take advantage of. They summarize these services on their county website. Some of the services provided include adult day service; caregiver assistance; counseling as part of elderly community outreach, and help finding work as part of the Senior Community Service Employment Program.

If you are getting older, you should take advantage of the different programs that can help to provide for your needs. You should also take advantage of available legal resources that can help you to use legal tools designed to protect your assets, family, and legacy. The Law Office of Michael Robinson, P.C. can help. We provide assistance to seniors as well as to younger and middle aged people who want to make a strong financial plan, protect assets, plan for incapacity, and secure their legacies.

Nursing Homes in Pittsford

U.S. News and World Reports Health reports there are 49 nursing homes in the greater Rochester metropolitan area, including nursing care facilities in Pittsford. Just six homes received an overall five star rating.

Choosing a nursing home is difficult, as you must address the reputation of the care facility and must make plans to pay for care. You also need to understand the information contained in nursing home admissions paperwork and must know how this information affects your rights. It is best to make your plans for nursing home care, including a plan to pay for it, well before the care is actually needed so you can avoid last-minute decisions and can protect assets while ensuring costs are covered. The Law Office of Michael Robinson, P.C. can provide assistance with making an advance plan for care.

Courts in Pittsford

The Law Office of Michael Robinson, P.C. tries to help clients keep their affairs out of court and handle legal matters independently. Doing so can save costs and can be quicker and simpler. For example, avoiding probate through careful estate planning can allow your heirs to spend less on legal fees and to face less stress after your death, as well as to inherit more quickly. Avoiding guardianship with an incapacity plan also makes life easier for your loved ones if something happens to you.

Still, there are situations where going to court is necessary, like when a loved one has died and a will must be probated or when someone has become incapacitated with no power of attorney. If going to court becomes necessary and you live in Pittsford, the court most likely to preside over your legal issues is the Monroe County Surrogate’s Court. The court is part of the 7th Judicial District and is located in Room 541 of the Hall of Justice. The Hall of Justice can be found at 99 Exchange Blvd., Rochester, NY 14614. The telephone number to reach the court is 585-371-3310.

If you must go to court, The Law Office of Michael Robinson, P.C. can represent you. Our legal team assists families in incapacity proceedings, as well as beneficiaries, executors, and heirs in trust administration, probate, guardianship, and other legal matters.
