For anyone who wants to support those affected by hurricane Sandy, there are many ways to do this. ABC news.com has assembled a collection of organizations that are reliable and trustworthy that you can donate to show your support. Here is a quick list of some of the organizations that are currently providing support to those impacted by this devastating storm.
The New York Blood Center. If you live close to the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area you should consider donating blood or plasma to the New York blood Center. As the storm approached many blood drives had to be canceled, so blood supply levels in the area are currently low. You can contact the center at 800–933–2566, or visit www.nybloodcenter.org to make a monetary donation.
The American Red Cross. Red Cross workers will provide food, shelter, and other support to the victims of the storm as long as is needed. Visit www.redcross.org to make a donation, or call 800–Red Cross. You can also send an instant donation of $10 by texting “Redcross” to 90999.
The Salvation Army. You can also donate through the Salvation Army either by providing a monetary donation or contacting your local Salvation Army office for information about donating supplies. Visit www.salvationarmyusa.org for more information or to make a donation.
